Top 8 Free Things to Do in Dubrovnik

There is an endless list of things to do in Dubrovnik for visitors of all ages and interests. However, many of the most popular sights and attractions are pricey. If you wish to travel Dubrovnik on the cheap, here’s a list of eight free things you can do in Dubrovnik.

Take a Hike to the Top of Mount Srd

This is going to be one of the staples of your Dubrovnik trip, so make sure to bring your camera, put on some comfortable hiking shoes, and start early in the morning to avoid the heat. At a steady pace, the hike will take you around 45-50 minutes. The route is quite scenic, and at the top, you will get a lovely view of the whole city and the Adriatic.

Enjoy a Day or Two at the Beach

Beach in Dubrovnik

If you were to do just one thing in Dubrovnik, it should be visiting the beach. Dubrovnik has a few beautiful beaches that are free and open to the public. Our top 3 are Copacabana Beach, Banje Beach, and Sv.Jakov Beach. Bring your towels and umbrellas though, if you do not plan to rent a deck or other facilities.

Walk the Streets of the Old Town

When you’ve had enough beach time, you can have a walk around Old Town and admire the ancient architecture of Dubrovnik. You can take a stroll down the limestone-paved Stradun and peek into the many souvenir shops and cozy cafes that occupy this pedestrian street.

Chill at Luza Square

Luza is the focal point for all tourists visiting Dubrovnik. It is located on the eastern end of Stradun and is home to many administrative buildings, as well as to the famous Bell Tower and St. Blaise Church.

Explore the Cathedrals

Dubrovnik, just like the rest of Croatia, is predominantly Catholic, which means you will find some historical cathedrals and churches worth visiting. The Dubrovnik Cathedral and the 18th-century baroque church of St. Blaise are great places to start.

Walk through Street Markets

Although Dubrovnik is not a big shopping destination, it has a few good open-air street markets that will make you feel like a local. Try visiting Gundulićeva Poljana for fruits and veggies and Dubrovačka Kuća for souvenirs and gifts.

Visit Gradac Park

When you get tired of the Old Town crowds, walk 600 meters westward to Park Gradac. This is a perfect place to unwind and relax in a lush pine oasis with breathtaking views of the Old Town and Danče beach.

Watch the Sunset at the City Harbor

And last but not least, enjoy a nice evening at the city harbor watching the boats come and go as the sun sets on the mesmerizing Adriatic Sea. It is even worth it to splurge a little bit on a fine bottle of wine to complete the scene.
